So last time, when I said I'd update in a few days, I seriously thought that that would be the last time I was unable to keep an updating promise. Really, school was almost over and I had nothing to do. I was just... intimidated by the sheer volume of drawings piled up in my house. This summer, I am going to do my best to post them all.You may have noticed that I'm always going on and on about Lavender and the other characters in her story, but I never post anything I've written about her. However, I am at the UVA Young Writers' Workshop right now, and I have found it to be a wonderful environment for getting things done: I was able to finish a prologue of sorts to the main story, something I began at home but couldn't finish. I'm not sure yet if I want Lavender's story to be a comic or a written story; they both have advantages, and I enjoy them both. This part, though, is purely written.
WARNING: This story contains:
-war, fairly glossed over.
-violence involving a young child, less glossed over.
-writing that I feel is not my best - I just finished it last night, and I'm too busy being happy I did it to heavily critique myself and improve it.
Okay. Now.
( It was exciting, being up before dawn. )A note: Maybe you don't like it. That's okay; Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and besides, I can't blame you for not liking a story about bad things happening to a little girl. I just realized, though, that I am deathly afraid that someone will stumble onto this story and mercilessly go over everything that's wrong with my writing itself. (I recently had an incident in which my art was badly insulted, so I'm kind of on edge right now.) If you're going to critique my writing style, word choices, or the like, please do it politely. I do want to improve, but I don't want it to be painful. Thank you.I'm working on another Lavender-related thing right now. It will be longer, less violent, and hopefully better-written than this. However, I have 9001 other things to work on (well, okay, only three) that are assignments, so they're slightly higher priorities. Still, I think I'll be able to find time to work on what I want to, too.
